The Yalla Yallas - Retaliation

Over 30 years have passed since Punk Rock first erupted onto the scene. We've seen it change and re-define itself over the years, we’ve seen it gain and lose popularity but we've never seen it disappear. Whether Punk is underground, over ground or out of space, my guess is there'll always be Punks, thus always a demand for Punk music.

The question I ask though is this: Can a band really make music like they did in the 70's without it being clichéd?

Leeds quartet The Yalla Yallas have done exactly that. Their name was inspired by a sentiment expressed on an early Joe Strummer recording and their songs sound like they could have dropped right out of The Clash's back catalogue. With short, thrashy songs, boundless energy and traditional snarled vocals of Rob Galloway, The Yalla Yallas take it back to the roots from the second the CD starts. It's anti-establishment, it's outspoken and it's loud, razor sharp music that'll let off the pressure valve in the heads of many.

For anybody who likes their punk how it was in the heyday, but is gutted they weren’t alive for it will love these guys. Anybody looking for something new may find it all a bit familiar though.
