After several brief encounters with various lead guitarists, Barnsley three-piece MYNAS have cracked on with remaining members to release their current demo If You Work Hard. Begging the question, did they even need a fourth member in the first place? MYNAS have released an excellent indie-pop demo, with catchy hooks, great melodies and fuller than full sound!

Opening with the jerky guitars of title track If You Work Hard... their style shares the spirit of many current Radio 1-esque indie bands. With tight drums laying good foundations and some excellent bass lines and fills, the husky, but tuneful vocal sits well with the twangy guitar. Despite melancholy lyrical content the music is always feel-good and makes for a slightly confusing but enjoyable listen.

My standout track on this demo would be Morgan. With fantastic chord progressions, good structure and a definite Coral vibe, I can imagine crowds singing along to the heartfelt vocal melodies. The track breaks down to what you think is the end, then totally off guard the drums kick back in and the song finishes on a trippy guitar solo.

For anybody who enjoys current indie music, but would like a tad more depth than the Pigeon Detectives, these guys might be right up your street.
